The incorporation of dialect by Twain in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn adds authenticity to the narrative, enhancing the believability of the characters and settings for audiences. By integrating genuine social dialects, Twain accurately portrays Southern society, aligning with characters' histories, their era, and geographical context. This is particularly true for characters Huck and Jim. Jim, being a slave and less educated, speaks in a way that resonates with readers, using colloquial language and nonstandard grammar, as evidenced by expressions like "Whar is you?", "ag'in", "sumf'n", etc.

Realism represents a literary movement focused on depicting life as it truly is, contrasting the prior escapism favored by earlier authors, who created imaginary utopias. Twain excels in this approach, with realists prioritizing character complexity over mere plots. The characters are rich and multi-dimensional, reflecting authentic human struggles, which can lead to regrettable decisions akin to those encountered in daily life. Their dialogue reflects natural patterns, allowing audiences to connect, which is a hallmark of Twain's narrative style in works like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, where dialects relate to the "average individual." Through his storytelling, he contributes significantly to American Realism, bringing literature closer to reality and exploring characters' psychological developments, in contrast to the fictional narratives of the past.

In preparation for a group discussion, read about Henry David Thoreau’s passion for nature and the outdoors.
Flura [7041]

Henry David Thoreau was an American writer, poet, thinker, abolitionist, naturalist, tax protester, development critic, surveyor, and historian. Two of his most notable works are: "Resistance to Civil Government" (known as "Civil Disobedience") and "The Mask of Anarchy." His guiding principle can be summarized by the phrase: "Government should not wield more power than that given by its citizens."

Thoreau was even jailed for his refusal to pay taxes in opposition to the Mexican-American War and slavery.

A firm idealist, he stood against governmental oppression and tyranny. It is my belief that society would benefit from having more individuals of his caliber, as we need free thinkers to shield ordinary citizens from oppressive regimes.

Now, let’s concentrate on his views regarding nature. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and spent a significant amount of time in solitude within a cabin in the woods to connect with nature on a more profound level.

I regard walking as a superb form of exercise, but we must clarify the specific types of walking we can engage in. There is walking indoors on machines, walking along roads, in parks, or on the beach. Personally, I believe the ideal walking occurs in a peaceful forest, away from urban noise, where one can focus solely on the sound of their own breath and the beauty of the surrounding nature. Thoreau expressed this sentiment when he said: "I wish to speak a word (with) Nature, for absolute freedom and wildness". While walking serves as good exercise, walking for a few hours to truly immerse oneself in nature is the ultimate experience. Thoreau articulated this beautifully: I desire to be "a part and parcel of Nature, rather than a member of society."

Machiavelli's claim in the passage is that leaders must<br> Machiavelli's evidence includes
Flura [7041]

Machiavelli advocates for a practical approach to governance.

Explanation:

In the passage, Machiavelli argues that it is essential for rulers to create an atmosphere of fear among the populace or the territories they subjugate, as this is the only way to maintain control.

He states that if a leader fails to instill fear, a rebellion is inevitable over time.

Machiavelli supports his argument with historical examples such as the downfall of Italy’s city-states and how the convergence of nations has often been driven by the power of influential nobility.

In this case, the verbs that align with the subject are "finish/take"

A verb in English is categorized as a term that indicates any action, event, or state of being. In essence, a verb signifies an action or a doing word.

Examples of verbs include dance, sing, walk, play, run, sit, clap, cheer, read, etc.

A subject refers to the individual, object, concept, or location that executes an action within a sentence.

Furthermore, subject-verb agreement pertains to the concordance between the subject and predicate in a sentence.

This means that a verb and its corresponding subject need to agree in terms of number or tense.

In this specific example, the verb finish (in present tense) is the most suitable since its subject (crowd) is singular (referring to each committee member). Likewise, the second part of the sentence should utilize the verb take (also in the present tense).

In summary, the verbs finish and take satisfy the subject-verb agreement in this scenario.
