An example pertinent to this discussion is colonialism. The prevalent view is that Europeans sought exploration and aimed to discover new markets globally. They leveraged their technology to advance exploration, and upon encountering other nations, they exerted dominance due to their imperial beliefs and the quest for wealth.

Seen from a Marxist viewpoint, colonialism can be interpreted as a conflict between different classes. The colonizers hold the means of production and dominate the local laborers, profiting from their efforts without engaging in work themselves. The political and hierarchical systems put in place are intended to uphold this status quo.

Analyzing this event through various lenses alters our understanding of it. From the first perspective, it seems less intentional, economic factors appear less significant, and cultural aspects are emphasized. In contrast, the second perspective primarily attributes an economic motivation to the event. Neither interpretation is inherently right or wrong.

Different individuals hold various perspectives. Some may deem it irrelevant while she considers it significant. A case in point is the women's rights movement: some men and other women found it unnecessary for women to gain the right to vote or enjoy privileges similar to those of men. Suppose you admire the courage of women standing up for their rights, while your friend finds it unremarkable—this reflects differing viewpoints. Please feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.

Which sentences contain dependent clauses? Select two options. Jaime showed me how to throw a curveball. Alyssa is graduating ne
Leya [7781]

Response:

Alyssa is set to graduate next year, and my sister is as well. We’ll be leaving shortly, so if you plan to join us, you should hurry.

Explanation:

As you might be aware, independent clauses are basically segments of a sentence that can stand alone, while dependent clauses need these independent clauses to convey meaning. In this instance, the dependent clauses are "and so is my sister" and "so you'd better hurry if you want to go with us," as these phrases don't make sense on their own.

Which best describes the impact of Gelissen’s decision to tell her story in memoir form? It provides a variety of personal accou
hammer [7621]

Which events are part of the road of trials in Odysseus’s heroic quest? Check all that apply.
ddd [7416]

Answer:

  • escaping the Lotus-Eaters
  • battling the Sirens
  • encountering Charybdis and Scylla

Explanation:

The Odyssey is one of two seminal epic poems from Ancient Greece, attributed to the author Homer. It serves as a continuation of the Iliad, another major work by him, forming a cornerstone in Western literature. Historically, it is the second epic, with the Iliad being the first.

The poem consists of three primary segments:

The first segment follows Telemachus, Ulysses' son, who departs Ithaca, then overrun by suitors, in pursuit of news about his father, guided by the goddess Athena.

The second segment recounts Ulysses' final journey as he opts to leave the nymph Calypso and return to Ithaca. After eighteen days of sailing, he confronts a vicious storm, conjured by Poseidon, which casts him upon the shores of the Feacians. There, Nausicaa, daughter of the local king Alcinous, finds him and takes him to her father's palace, where he receives a warm welcome. During a banquet in his honor, Ulysses hears a bard perform songs of the Trojan War and, unable to contain his identity, reveals himself and shares his narrations, beginning with his adventures following the Trojan War, including battles with Cyclops, cannibal foes, the sorceress Circe, journeys to the underworld, encounters with sirens, and the enchanting nymph Calypso.

The third segment resumes the narrative of the Odyssey, culminating in Ulysses' return to Ithaca. Disguised as a beggar, he reunites with his son Telemachus, who has returned, and together they plot the demise of the suitors vying for the throne. Still incognito, he arrives at his palace, recognized only by his dog and old servant. It’s only when Penelope declares she will marry whoever can wield Ulysses’ bow that he reveals his identity, ultimately defeating the suitors. The epic concludes with the reunion of Ulysses and Penelope.
