Read the excerpt from Spencer’s narrative. As we waited for our new football coach to enter the locker room, we all secretly won

dered what he would be like. Would he be tough but fair? Would he be demanding but understanding? Would he motivate us before each game with a rousing speech the way Coach Jackson always had? These thoughts were abruptly interrupted when our new coach entered the locker room, stood before us, and commanded our attention. "He” was a "she”! Our new coach was a female? Stunned, my mouth gaping, I barely heard what she said to the team next. How does Spencer’s use of chronological order affect the plot of his narrative? Readers are able to share in Spencer’s surprise at discovering that his new coach is female because this fact is not revealed at the beginning of the story. Readers are able to understand the conflict more easily because Spencer reveals what is bothering him at the very beginning of the story. Readers do not understand Spencer’s surprise because they had no idea what Spencer was thinking before the new football coach arrived. Readers do not have to read the entire story because they are now able to predict what will happen once the new football coach speaks to the team.

What two dissimilar things is whitman comparing when he uses the metaphor of a little house
ddd [7416]

Whitman's metaphor of a small house highlights two contrasting elements:

The poet Walt Whitman has drawn attention to the scents and aromas as a metaphor. He intertwines the sense of smell with memories associated with places, discussing the aroma of a room or a house. Additionally, he references the fragrance of books on the shelves.

The two contrasting elements he specifically notes regarding the memories linked to the house are the scent of the room or house itself and the aroma of the books present. Both of these evoke recollections of our past experiences.

"The Passing" was likely written for which audience?
ddd [7416]

Response: Adolescents in middle or high school

Clarification:

The film ''The Passing'', released in 2016, revolves around a single car accident.

Given that the narrative of ''The Passing'' is not aimed at younger viewers, I would conclude that it targets a somewhat older demographic, specifically middle and high school students.

  • I believe this is the accurate assessment because one character, Stanley, exhibits a voyeuristic curiosity regarding a couple. Moreover, there are additional instances of male-female interactions that a mature audience can grasp more effectively.

At the conclusion of the plot, a character has a fall, which is also inappropriate for children.
