Prompt: A psychology graduate student conducted a study at the entrance to a football game at the university. The entrance was s

pecifically for students who made the Dean's List for academic achievement during the previous semester. Some students arrived to watch the game by themselves, while others arrived in a group. As they arrived, the graduate student asked half of the students to record their attendance on an attendance sheet. The remaining half were allowed to enter the game without recording their attendance. The graduate student told every student to take one soda and one hamburger from a concessions table sponsored by the Dean's Office. She then returned to the sign-in table out of sight of the concessions. This gave the students the opportunity to take additional food. The graduate student measured the percentage of students who took additional free food. Her hypotheses were that students would take more food when they were alone and when they were not asked to sign in. The results are shown in the graph below; assume all differences are significant.
Questions: Identify each of the following in this study: Control group, Confounding variable, Independent variable, and provide an operational definition of the dependent variable. Explain how the data support or do not support each of the hypotheses. Explain why the findings cannot be generalized to all students Explain why the study is not a naturalistic observation.

Answer: The confounding variable is the Psychology graduate

I believe the control is the food

Explanation:

Without the involvement of the graduate, there wouldn't be any other variable to consider, but with their presence, they can establish control and generate charts.

Which of the following is true of analogies in supporting problem solving?
iVinArrow [163]

Answer:

  • B) Relevant analogies often assist individuals in problem-solving, though people usually do not instinctively consider relevant analogies.

Explanation:

An analogy establishes a connection between two situations, highlighting similarities or points of comparison.

Indeed, analogies are valuable in resolving problems. At times, a dilemma may appear intricate and hard to grasp, but it is possible to relate the situation to another, for which the solution is more straightforward. Once you identify the answer to the simpler issue, you can apply similar reasoning to resolve the original question.

Conversely, identifying relevant analogies can be challenging, necessitating tips, clues, or hints that help bridge the two seemingly disconnected problems. Upon discovering the link, the more obvious solution to the less complicated issue can then be utilized to tackle the more complex one.

Clarification:

Salutations!

The research hypothesis states that "The newly launched advertisement increases the probability of individuals purchasing the new mechanical toy dogs."

This new promotional strategy is tailored to target individuals with specific personality traits.

In order to validate her hypothesis, the doctor formed four distinct groups of participants and surveyed their interest in obtaining the toy both prior to and following their viewing of the advertisement.

A significant drawback of this experiment is the absence of a representative sample. Several external factors were overlooked, including the participants' financial ability to purchase the toy and their familial circumstances (those with children are more inclined to buy toys compared to those without children).

It’s possible that there were variances in the likelihood of each group being attracted to the toys, leading to an imbalance that could skew the study's conclusions.

I hope this information is beneficial!
