La dificultad para responder a esta pregunta reside en que puede ser formulada casi al revés. Gilgamesh es considerado, sin lugar a dudas, el héroe épico original en la literatura universal. Fue el rey de Uruk, una antigua ciudad mesopotámica conocida por sus espectaculares murallas, y se le considera como dos tercios divino y un tercio humano.
