Read the excerpt from "A Genetics of Justice” by Julia Alvarez. My father and mother were once again trapped in a police state.

They laid low as best they could. Now that they had four young daughters, they could not take any chances. For a while, that spark which has almost cost my father his life and which he had lighted in my mother seemed to have burnt out. Periodically, Trujillo would demand a tribute, and they would acquiesce. A tax, a dummy vote, a portrait on the wall. To my father and other men in the country, the most humiliating of these tributes was the occasional parade in which women were made to march and turn their heads and acknowledge the great man as they passed the review stand. What is the central idea in this paragraph? Having four young daughters made the family more of a target because of Trujillo’s mandatory tributes. Trujillo required people to take part in tributes and parades, which were enforced by the police state. The author’s parents fought against the dictatorship, even though they participated in the tributes. The author’s parents tried to get by in the dictatorship, but felt humiliated by the tributes they were forced to participate in.

The key concept presented in the paragraph is that the author's parents navigated life under a dictatorship with minimal engagement, despite the demeaning tributes imposed by Trujillo that they were reluctantly part of. Hence, the most accurate option is the last one: "The author’s parents endeavored to survive the dictatorship but felt degraded by the tributes they were compelled to partake in." The text articulates that the author's parents attempted to maintain a low profile to dodge police scrutiny, yet having several daughters raised the stakes, compelling them to yield to the dictatorship without taking risks.

Naddika [7460]

Answer:

It maintains viewer interest in the narrative by hinting at further potential conflicts in the storyline.

It generates suspense as readers may question Friar Laurence's motivation for delivering this caution.

It gives a signal that something disastrous might occur to the lovers as the plot unfolds.

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet"centers on the tragic love story of two young individuals whose relationship is severely impacted by their families' feuds. Their love was regarded as 'forbidden,' leading to them choosing death over any possible separation.

In Act I, Scene V of the play, Friar Laurence's remarks about "violent delights [that] have violent ends" and the necessity to "love moderately; long love doth so;" introduce a sense of suspense regarding potential events in the forthcoming scenes. This foreshadowing dialogue from the Friar keeps the audience deeply invested in the narrative, creating an opening for more dramatic scenarios. Additionally, it invokes curiosity about the reasoning behind his statement, adding to the suspense concerning the lovers’ fate, suggesting they may encounter something sorrowful. Thus, the correct answers are the first, third, and fifth options.

Lady bird [7499]

To enhance the effectiveness of the fire pit diagram, the following changes are recommended:

1. Add visual representations for each step in the procedure;

2. Include a marker to show the fire pit's depth;

3. Provide labels for every material listed.

These modifications will aid the individual constructing the fire pit in comprehending the tasks involved and the methodology required. Grasping the materials' characteristics and their practical application is vital for achieving a successful outcome. Given that depth is critical for the fire pit's proper operation, visualizing the appropriate depth is also vital for construction. Well-presented and numbered images for each stage would help clarify any uncertainties.

Gnom [7528]

Option D is correct: "I made just one request for the camping trip: I wanted to stay in a cabin instead of a tent."

Colons are typically used after complete sentences. Since "I made just one request for the camping trip" forms a complete thought, it should be followed by a colon.
