Answer:

Story

Explanation:

Once upon a time, an elderly lady lived by a river and carried a stick. One day, due to heavy rains, the river flooded and swept her house away. She called out for help as her two young granddaughters were also caught in the floodwaters. She was in distress. While passing by, I noticed her crying. I managed to rescue her little granddaughters just in time, averting a worse situation.

The day I was returning home, I witnessed two men forcing my younger brother into our house. Overcome with dread, I hurried to find a local police officer, who joined me in rushing to my home. Just as we reached the door, the police arrived and kicked it down, enabling us to rescue both my brother and parents from danger. Had we arrived any later, the outcome could have been dire, but fortunately, we made it just in time to avert a crisis.

In which passage is it clearest that the author is using diction to achieve some kind of effect?
Leya [7781]

I would likely assert that the author employed diction to create a specific effect in the initial sentence.

A. The teacher stood at the door smiling brightly and welcoming each student to her classroom on the first day of school.

The word choice used by the author in this sentence depicts the teacher as warm, friendly, and nurturing.

Why were the 1950s considered the "Golden Age of Food Processing"?
Naddika [7460]
During the 1950s, it was thought that processed foods simplified life, which is why this decade is referred to as the Golden Age of Food Processing. Items like chicken pies, frozen fruits, vegetables, and canned products were quick and convenient to prepare. Given the pressures of modern living, including working and raising a family, less time was available for cooking from scratch.
