Since Emma beat his score on the test, Dean decided he was having trouble in his AP Psychology class. Despite his efforts and re

cent success, he went back down to #2 status on his last exam. The stress of this was enough to make him worried about his condition. Could it be the test was biased? He’d learn that in the next unit. Was it that his personality fragmented, like in Dissociative Identity Disorder? No, it can’t be, disorders are in the unit after testing. He’d have to seek therapy, but that’s three units from now. After consulting with his psychology teacher, Dean came to the conclusion that he might have a personality conflict. So he built a time machine to go back and seek out three famous psychologists and their theories on personality to better understand his issues. Dean decided to look at the following theories: Psychoanalytic Humanistic Social-Cognitive/Social-Learning Explain these theories in terms of their approaches to personality. PSYCHOANALYTIC: Concentrates on the individual's unconscious motivations, including concepts like Id, Ego, and Superego. The therapeutic approach may include hypnotherapy, free association, and dream analysis. HUMANISTIC: Centers on the person's inherent value, dignity, and worth, often utilizing techniques such as non-directive therapy, active listening, and unconditional positive regard, exemplified by referring to patients as "clients". COGNITIVE (excluding social): This approach focuses on thought processes. It may involve rational-emotive therapy to help alter unrealistic self-perceptions. BEHAVIORAL: Prioritizes observable actions over thoughts, potentially employing counter-conditioning techniques which link positive stimuli to desired behaviors.

iVinArrow [163]
Psychologists in this study utilized twin research to explore how genetics influence human behavior. They aimed to discern the extent of genetic impact on individual psychological traits. This inquiry arose from a necessity for a scientific approach to distinguish the influence of genetics (nature) from that of the environment (nurture) on behavior and personality. The findings suggest that genetic elements seem to significantly account for most variations in a wide array of human traits.
