The northern sector of Canada lies directly within the Arctic Circle, where winter temperatures can plummet to nearly -40 degrees. In contrast, the southern regions, like Vancouver in the west and cities like Ottawa, Toronto, or Montreal in the east, are effectively continuations of cities from the U.S. This leads to the fact that only the southern part of the country has inhabitants, as the severe weather conditions of the remainder deter settlement.
