In federalist no. 10, Madison describes "moneyed interests" as factions that are likely to sacrifice the common good to their ow

n self-interest. In at least 100 words, express your thoughts about how Madison might react to the current situation in which "corporations are people" that can exert power limited only by the amount of money they have. Do you think Madison would define a corporation as a faction? Why or why not?
(I'm not asking for you to actually write me a 100 word essay but at least help me get a start and more of an understanding. Thanks.)

James Madison would categorize today’s corporations as "factions." He viewed factions as groups of individuals united by common interests, particularly financial, who band together to secure advantages for themselves at the expense of others in society.

Madison’s concerns about factions centered on how money and property create rival groups within society, divided by their wealth or ownership. For example, landowners could form one faction, while banking and lending institutions could form others. Similarly, powerful contemporary corporations function as factions, potentially exercising influence to the detriment of the broader population.

According to Madison, factions undermine the cohesion of the republic because they pursue their own agendas without regard for the collective rights and welfare of the community or nation as a whole.

In which passage is it clearest that the author is using diction to achieve some kind of effect?
Leya [7781]

I would likely assert that the author employed diction to create a specific effect in the initial sentence.

A. The teacher stood at the door smiling brightly and welcoming each student to her classroom on the first day of school.

The word choice used by the author in this sentence depicts the teacher as warm, friendly, and nurturing.

Eva always wanted to be a veterinarian. She just got her license and opened her own practice. Her next goal would be to
ddd [7416]

Answer:

Explanation:

This question can have multiple reasonable responses.

We know that Eva possesses a veterinary license and has recently established her own practice. Although the text doesn't explicitly state it, we can deduce that she has housing in either an apartment or a rented space. With a current living arrangement, the urgency to save for a home diminishes, even if she aspires to own a house in the future.

I believe option #3 is the most suitable choice, as she is setting her priorities and transitioning from short-term to long-term objectives. Homeownership involves considerable investment and saving over time. While the specific amount of her student debt is not mentioned, we can infer that since her practice is operational, she will likely manage to repay her loans on time while also saving for a home. Although option #4 could be a valid point, I still feel that option #3 stands out as the best choice.

Naddik [7538]

These stories appeal to our primal side. They unleash our imagination and bring out a childlike sense of wonder. They let feelings surpass logic. They highlight the struggle with evil. They transport us beyond everyday safety. They trigger curiosity and exhilaration. They evoke adrenaline rushes. They lead us to envision the bleakest outcomes.
