Response:

As I approached my home, I noticed my mother staring at me silently. She didn’t say anything and walked away when I entered. Everyone else looked at me briefly before returning to their activities. I sensed something was off from the looks on my mother’s and siblings’ faces. I felt as though I had done something wrong. It was a lonely and frightening moment. I felt out of place.

I hope this is helpful:)

Once, while I was home alone in bed with my mother out shopping, I heard knocks at the door. I assumed it was her and peeked through the peephole, only to see a tall, eerie figure with a weapon. I quickly found a place to hide as the knocking transformed into banging. After 35 minutes, my mother rushed in and hugged me tightly, unaware of what had transpired. I wondered if it had all been a trick. It left me feeling very uneasy.

ddd [7416]

A significant underlying idea in "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" targets the Vietnam War and the resulting deaths. Goines employs emotional irony and satire to criticize the US Government, particularly mocking the draft system, portraying it as a farce. In contrast, "Attack the Water" reveals the struggles endured by Vietnamese people and Japanese-Americans during the era of Japanese internment camps. Both Goines and Mirikitani denounce war and seek to encourage readers to reflect critically. While Goines uses humor and ridicule to highlight human folly and urge change, Mirikitani emphasizes the harsh realities and suffering caused by war.

Rhyme and rhythm. The author incorporated these two sound elements to accentuate the musicality of the poem. The rhyme pattern follows an alternating structure (abab cdcd efef). While the rhyme may not be flawless, the intention to create rhyme is evident. Similarly, the rhythm can be discerned, although not perfect, as each line typically consists of 8 syllables, with a few at 7. This uniformity of syllables contributes to a consistent beat when reading the lines.
