Answer:

a) Theoretical Yield of HF = 5.64 grams

b) Percentage Yield = 39%

Explanation:

Reaction Given:

CaF2 + H2SO4 -> CaSO4 + 2HF

CaF2 = 11g

H2SO4 = Used in excess

HF = 2.2 g production = Actual Yield

So, Let's write down the molar masses:

Molar Mass of CaF2 = 78 g /mol

Molar Mass of HF = 20 g/mol

From the reaction, we can see the 1 mole of CaF2 gives the 2 moles of HF

i.e

a) Theoretical Yield of HF:

1 mole CaF2 = 2 moles HF

78 g CaF2 = 2 x 20 g of HF

78 g CaF2 = 40 g of HF

1 g CaF2 = 40g/78g of HF

And in the question it is given that chemist used 11 g of CaF2 so,

1 x 11 g of CaF2 = 11 x 40/78 g of HF

11 g of CaF2 = 440/78 g of HF

11 g of CaF2 = 5.64 g of HF

And this is the theoretical yield

Theoretical Yield of HF = 5.64 grams

b) Now, calculate the Percentage Yield of HF

Percentage Yield = Actual Yield /Theoretical Yield x 100

Percentage Yield = 2.2 g /5.64 g x 100

Percentage Yield = 39%

From the following list of elements, those that will always form ionic compounds in a 1:2 ratio with zinc.
eduard [2782]
A. iodine C. fluorine F. bromine Explanation: Ionic bonds primarily form between metals and non-metals, typically where there exists a significant difference in electronegativity between the constituent atoms. This situation results in one atom seeking to gain electrons while the other donates them. For zinc to form a compound in a 1:2 ratio, its combining power must align accordingly. The prevalent oxidation state of zinc is +2. The other combining atoms must also possess the capacity to accept two electrons. The halogens fit perfectly here, as they require only one electron to achieve stability and are highly electronegative. Hence, if two halogens combine with zinc, they will result in an ionic bond. The relevant halogens include fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine which will yield compounds: ZnF₂, ZnBr₂, and ZnI₂.

Based on the bond energies for the reaction below, what is the enthalpy of the reaction?HC≡CH (g) + 5/2 O₂ (g) → 2 CO₂ (g) + H₂O

Answer:

1219.5 kJ/mol

Explanation:

The calculation for this value requires using the following equation:

ΔHºrxn = Σn * (BE of reactants) - Σn * (BE of products)

ΔHºrxn = [1 * (BE C = C) + 2 * (BE C-H) + 5/2 * (BE O = O)] - [4 * (BE C = O) + 2 * (BE O-H)].

The bond energy (BE) values are:

BE C = C: 839 kJ/mol

BE C-H: 413 kJ/mol

BE O = O: 495 kJ/mol

BE C = O: 799 kJ/mol

BE O-H: 463 kJ/mol

By substituting these values into the equation, you will get:

ΔHºrxn = [1 * 839 + 2 * (413) + 5/2 * (495)] - [4 * (799) + 2 * (463)] = 1219.5 kJ/mol
